Posted 02/11/2019 03:04PM

St. Timothy's girls varsity basketball team recently brought home the Capital Area Middle School Conference (CAMSC) tournament trophy after facing two tough opponents.

STS was ranked second going into the CAMSC conference tournament after a 14-4 season. In the semi-final round, the team faced number three Grace Christian.  The game remained close until the very end, when eighth grader Cate Lemmon made the winning basket with a last second shot. The final score was 27-25.

Three days later, the team went up against fourth seeded Magellan for the conference championship. In front of a packed house and with home court advantage, captains Ava Palmgren and Cate Lemmon, both 8th graders, led the team in scoring. Lemmon scored 5 points and Palmgren scored 13, nine of which were scored in the last quarter and overtime. Sixth grader Grace Frances Longino scored 4 points, including the basket that secured the win in overtime

"I'm so happy for the girls," remarked Coach Brian Russell. "Under the leadership of captains Ava Palmgren and Cate Lemmon, the girls worked hard and it paid off with a championship title!"

Congratulations to our girls varsity basketball team!
