Fifth and sixth graders recently helped collect 1,300 books from our St. Timothy's community!
As part of a service learning unit in their Religious Studies class, the students planned and advertised the book drive, then collected and sorted the donated books. The books will go to WAKE Up and Read, a local organization with a mission of engaging and educating Wake County about the importance of childhood literacy and increasing access to literacy resources and opportunities for all children.
Families wishing to continue this service learning effort can sign up to help WAKE Up and Read volunteers sort and box the 110,000 books collected. Children ages 5 -14 accompanied and supervised by an adult are welcome.
WAKE Up and Read hopes to collect 110,000 books to give out to students in 13 local elementary schools and the neighboring child care facilities and community centers. Students will be able to keep 10 books each to help build their home libraries.
