Over the summer, Band Director Susan Fritts received the good news that the STS Wind Ensemble was selected to perform at this year’s North Carolina Music Educators Association (NCMEA) Convention. Middle school and high school ensembles from around North Carolina that showcase the best in band, choral, jazz and orchestra music were invited to perform in from of music educators during the conference.
Only two middle schools in the entire state were chosen for this year's convention. And as best we know, St. Timothy’s is the only private school to ever be invited and one of the youngest bands to be honored with this invitation.
The STS Wind Ensemble was created in 2015 for students who desired a competitive and challenging learning environment. Fourth through eighth graders make up the audition-only group.
The STS Wind Ensemble, consisting of 26 St. Timothy's School fourth through eighth graders and two STS 2018 alumni, performed at the NCMEA Convention on Monday, November 12 in the concert hall of the Benton Convention Center in Winston-Salem. Over 1,600 music educators attend this conference each year.
Congratulations to our band students for receiving this extraordinary recognition of their success!
