How do you escape Tesla's Lab? That's the question students recently faced in this year's escape room challenge. As part of the Social and Emotional Learning curriculum, small groups of sixth grade students worked as a team to solve puzzles hidden around The Editor room, which had been transformed into Nikola Tesla's lab. The goal was to turn off the scientist's famed Death Ray and escape the lab. Hidden around the room were also historical facts about Tesla, his inventions, and he and Edison's War of the Currents.
Students worked together using their observation and critical thinking skills to solve the puzzles, find the clues, and escape the lab within the allotted 45 minutes. Later in their Social and Emotional Learning classes, students analyzed and discussed how they solved the problem and what they learned about working as a team.
Thank you to STS Media Specialist Sarah Stanley for designing and implementing this innovative escape room challenge.
