Fifth grade is the first year of Middle School at St. Timothy’s School. With a good deal of support, our students begin to develop independence as learners. They are able to choose their arts elective – drama or art – and they follow a rotating schedule for the first time. Fifth grade students, like all Middle School students, take classes in Literature, Math, Science, Grammar, and History.
Fifth grade enrichment courses include an Arts elective, Physical Education, Technology, and Spanish. Students also receive support through weekly Toolbox classes including study skills, social and emotional learning (SEL), and research skills.
We enjoy a number of social opportunities with our fifth grade students, including a field games activity in the fall, a social in January, and a trip to see a Durham Bulls game, which is tied into a statistics unit in our math class.
