Alumni Named National Merit Semifinalists

Two STS Class of 2016 alumni are National Merit Scholarship® Semifinalists. Emma Colavecchio and Harris Upchurch, both seniors at Cardinal Gibbons High School, have been named Semifinalists for the 65th annual National Merit Scholarship Program (NMSP).

Approximately 1.5 million high school juniors entered the competition by taking the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT®), which served as an initial screen of program entrants.

About 16,000 Semifinalists, or less than 1% of high school seniors throughout the United States, were named Semifinalists by the NMSP. To be considered for a Merit Scholarship® award, semifinalists must meet several requirements to advance to Finalist. Approximately 15,000 students will be named Finalists, and 7,600 of those Finalists will win a National Merit Scholarship. The National Merit Scholarship Program distributes more than 31 million dollars in scholarship money. Finalists will be announced in the spring of 2020.

Congratulations and good luck to Emma and Harris!
