As one of the more recent St. Timothy's traditions, the STS Veterans Day observance is surely the most impactful day of the year. St. Timothy's School invited veterans and active service personnel in our community to our campus to honor them for Veterans Day. Forty veterans attended, including four World War II veterans.
The day began with an optional communion service for veterans during which prayers were offered for those who have gone on before us. After the service, guests gathered together before processing to the gym where our lower school students welcomed them with waving American flags. The students and veterans recited the Pledge of Allegiance, and Tim Tinnesz, our Head of School, gave brief opening remarks. Each veteran addressed the students with a short summary of his or her experiences in the U. S. Armed Forces.
At the conclusion of this presentation, Lower School students escorted their veteran visitors to the classrooms for lunch. Veterans in each classroom had a chance to share their experiences and answer students' questions in an intimate environment.
Middle School students and their guests gathered in the Chapel for a presentation by Col. Emmett Eugene "Jay" Stobbs, Jr, USA, Retired. After the presentation, veterans ate lunch with their Middle School hosts.
It was our privilege to host these men and women on Veterans Day. St. Timothy’s School is grateful for the courage, dedication and sacrifice of all the men and women who have served our country.
