Two St. Timothy’s School seventh graders recently traveled to Guatemala as part of the school’s relationship with Experiencias Interculturales: Jump the World, a student exchange program. Although St. Timothy’s has hosted students from Guatemala for the last 5 years, this is the first time that STS students participated in the exchange program. Colin Busby and Wilder Lowrance spent 3 weeks in Guatemala, staying with host families. In fact, Colin was able to stay with the host family of Lalo, the student his family hosted last fall.
The trip included time spent in the local school as well as excursions touring Guatemala’s lakes, volcanoes, and Mayan ruins. They experienced Guatemala’s world-famous Holy Week celebrations and spent two weeks attending a Guatemalan middle school. "When I went to Guatemala I met many new people and saw many amazing views," remarked Colin about his trip. "Learning a foreign language and culture, and going to a foreign country helps you gain friends and view yourself and your home from a different angle."
