Dr. Basil Hassan Named 2017 Graduation Speaker

Distinguished alumnus Basil Hassan, PhD, will deliver the graduation address at the St. Timothy's School eighth grade commencement ceremony on Saturday, June 3, 2017.

Dr. Hassan attended St. Timothy’s/Hale High School for 14 years, graduating in 1984. He received his BS (1988), MS (1990), and PhD (1993) in Aerospace Engineering from North Carolina State University.

Employed at Sandia National Laboratories in Albuquerque, New Mexico since 1993, Dr. Hassan is the Senior Manager of the Thermal, Fluid, and Aero Sciences Group. Sandia is one of the Department of Energy’s multi-program national laboratories. Dr. Hassan manages research, development, and applications expertise in thermal, fluid, and aero technology areas required for Sandia to accomplish its national security mission.

Dr. Hassan is a Fellow of the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics, including serving in on its Board of Directors from 2008-2017, where he held roles of Director and Vice President.  Dr. Hassan has also served on a variety of review boards for the National Academies, NASA, and Air Force Office of Scientific Research.  He currently serves on the North Carolina State University Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering Educational Advisory Board, and has served on similar boards for New Mexico State University, Texas A&M University, University of Texas at Austin, and University of New Mexico.
